Charitable Organizations

The Media-Upper Providence Free Library Book Sale supports many charitable organizations in our surrounding area. Most of these organizations serve underserved children who aren’t part of the Title I school districts the book sale supports through the Fisher Foundation Grant.

Our Impact

Here is a list of organizations that benefited from our unsold books during recent sales. The thousands of books that were donated to these organizations will now go into the hands of adults and children to encourage them to read.

  • St. Christophers Hospital for Children in Philadelphia – books are given out during children’s doctor visits.
  • Teachers Teammates – books are distributed to teachers and students in under-resourced schools in Delaware County.
  • Art Goes to School – books are used to train the volunteers who share fine art in classrooms.
  • Books Behind Bars – books to support educational programs.
  • Laundromat Library – books are placed in laundromats for children to ready while their parents wash clothes.
  • Little Free Library – a resident of the Mayfair section of Philadelphia maintains a library in front of their house which enables children to borrow books as they go back and forth to school.
  • Mitchell Elementary School in Philadelphia – books are used in classroom libraries.
  • High Schools in Philadelphia – books used to start libraries and reading programs in several high schools.
  • Penncrest High School – fiction books that students can borrow from a teacher’s classroom as part of a self-selected reading program.
  • Chester High School – a math tutor gathered books for his students.
  • Upper Darby High School – books for a self-selected reading and materials for a Child Development class in addition to a bookcase students may borrow from for personal reading. Books were also gathered for the children who come to the preschool.
